SUPPORT AND INSIGHT TO ASSESS AND TAILOR STUDENT LEARNING

POSTED: May 19, 2023Category: Showcased AssociateBY: AISA P9

Recent studies have reinforced the positive impact of professional learning for teachers with up to 15 years of experience, mainly when exploring more complex aspects of their practice, like the ability to generate classroom discussions or handle student mistakes.

NWEA is a research-based, not-for-profit organisation that supports students and educators worldwide by creating assessment solutions that measure growth and proficiency—and provide insights to help tailor instruction.

NWEA offers professional learning across a spectrum of topics, including purposeful applications of assessment data, using evidence of student readiness to inform instructional planning, setting growth goals for students and schools, formative assessment strategies, and using MAP in an IB setting. NWEA MAP Reading Fluency was awarded the 2020 CODiE Award for Best Student Assessment Solution and the 2020 EdTech Breakthrough Award for Best Student Assessment Solution.

Chase Nordengren, principal research lead for the professional learning team at NWEA, shared this insight:

“Understanding the complex relationship between professional learning and student outcomes is key to the NWEA professional learning theory of change. No magic content or type of experience works for all teachers or students at all times and in all situations. Instead, we design and deliver our learning around high-quality professional standards, align the focus of our learning with critical instructional practices that change outcomes for students, and measure the impact of that learning on teachers and students.”

NWEA provides a discount PD Credit Incentive for AISA member schools for participating in their MAP Reading Fluency field research based on the number of students testing for MAP Reading Fluency in the 2023-2024 academic year. Schools must register by the end of June 2023 to be eligible for this incentive (the discount offer does not apply to MAP Growth licenses or PD).
