Supporting Education: Margaret Sanders AISA Scholarship for Girls

POSTED: November 24, 2021Category: AISA Articles, News, Scholarships & Awards, School UpdatesBY: Steve

The Margaret Sanders AISA Scholarship for Girls supports a school’s contribution towards a deserving student’s education by covering a full range of incidental expenses such as extracurricular activities, school camps and IT expenses.

The 2020/21 Margaret Sanders AISA Scholarship for Girls was awarded to Sarah Ouangre, a remarkable high school student at the International School of Ouagadougou.

AISA was able to contribute US$ 2,000 towards specific areas of need. With the financial support and guidance from her school counsellors, Sarah was able to attend a NASA Leadership Workshop that has since inspired her to start a new service project, “Women Shape the World”. The aim of this project is to empower young girls and help them take better care of their health and wellbeing.
Sarah also participated in a writing workshop where she learned how to write better essays and bought several books to continue to inspire her creative mind. Being a committed athlete, Sarah was able to invest some of the scholarship funds towards track and field equipment to support her weekly training.

Sarah’s school counsellor had this to say, “Sarah is a dedicated student, keen on self-improvement as well as expanding her knowledge base. Not only is she a good student, but she also realizes the value of having a balanced life outside of school. Her commitment to her physical and mental health is evident in her funding requests. While she is not able to take band this or next year, she is committed to playing the clarinet on her own time. Additionally, the purchase of personal electronics will help her be more independent in her studies, rather than relying on school devices which are unfortunately not always available.”

This scholarship has been made possible by the Margaret Sanders Foundation and the management team of the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA). AISA celebrates Sarah’s diligence, focus and commitment and we look forward to sustaining our support for student learning.
