As the end of the year approaches, many teachers are struggling with how to engage students in a culminating assignment remotely. Catlin Tucker has spoken with teachers who normally end the year with a project, but they are not sure how it would work to facilitate a project in this distance learning reality.
She put together a “What do YOU want to learn?” project that uses the 5Es instructional model to move students through an investigation of their choice. The 5Es–engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate–are a nice way to structure a student-led inquiry project.
Catlin has created a template for the project to save teachers time and written a blog complete with a video that provides an overview of the parts of the project and a link to the slide deck which teachers can make a copy of and modify for their students.
