As a long-time educator and former school leader, John Roberts is now providing support for schools and heads through two roles: as a coach for heads, board chairs, and leadership teams.
John Roberts coaches heads, board chairs, and/or members of the leadership team, as contracted by each school. (Technically, this is not a consultancy. Executive coaching is not a sharing of expertise, so much as it is an empowering thinking partnership.) In the case of coaching new heads, the role may take on a form of mentorship, with more sharing of experience than happens with coaching an experienced head. My invoice for coaching services may take the form of a retainer to cover a minimum number of coaching conversations for the year, or payment for 5-session clusters, renewable as mutually agreed.
Effective Governance & Strategic Thinking
These "topics" are combined because the most critical work a board does is strategic visioning, therefore my governance retreats morph naturally into strategy. The most effective model for my support in this area is a hybrid one: a two-day on-site retreat that first lays the groundwork for effective governance, addressing any shortcomings that have been identified in a pre-survey (the training component), then moving into big-picture strategic visioning (the work component). The next phases of my work entail virtual follow-up with teams working on strategic goals--either new ones or new iterations of current/ongoing goals. A 2-3 month process.
