Conference Day Workshop

  • Jen Perry, SEL Specialist

Jen joined Edmentum as the Learning Designer for Social-Emotional Learning after 30+ years of work with youth in educational and community settings. As a teacher, administrator, and trainer, her passion has been to help educators develop an understanding of the importance of social and emotional learning and build trauma-informed responses and systems. This work has included supporting youth, administrators, and schools in understanding behavior and implementing transformational change through strength-based approaches.

Whole Learner Foundations: Understanding Behavior and Our Default Setting: Curriculum and Strategies to Help

Social Emotional Learning and whole child strategies can help you build a learning experience that is student centered and culturally responsive, but unless we understand why behavior happens, it is easy to derail the work before we even get to our creative lesson plans.

In this workshop, we are going to get into understanding behavior, its function and how to uncover our default setting. Then we will talk about things we can do to create the groundwork for successful learning.

Learning Objectives

  • identify baseline and default responses to behavior
  • learn ways to expand one’s lens on behavior
  • find out how parts of the brain work together to support learning
  • learn how to strategize ways to incorporate learning into their practice
  • learn about some digital curriculum that can support whole learner success

Target Audience

All School Leaders, Educators and Co-Professionals
