Conference Day Workshop

Facilitator

  • Dr. Joanna Lim, Elementary Teaching Principal

    American International School of Bamako
I am a Teaching Elementary Principal at the American International School of Bamako and also an adjunct fellow at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. As an educationist, I am deeply invested in professional teacher inquiry as a form of professional development. In this year's workshop, I would like to focus on exploring data-driven, practical and contextualised inquiries into teaching practices.

Exploring Data-driven Professional Teacher Inquiries to Support Teacher and Student Learning

The session will begin with a brief overview of the teaching as an inquiry model from New Zealand. This model will be used to introduce participants to the practicality of professional teacher inquiries. The teaching as inquiry model is a professional development method that positions student learning at the heart of teaching approaches.

Participants will be provided with realistic and authentic examples of how data can be used to support student-centered learning and teaching strategies. Breakout rooms will be used to encourage participants to discuss and develop steps towards implementing their contextualised professional teacher inquiries.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand professional teacher inquiry as a repetitive and reflective inquiry cycle
  • Consider different forms of data as evidence of student needs and/or learning
  • Explore a student-centred form of teacher professional development
  • Gain insight into student-centered teaching approaches informed by student data

Target Audience

Educators who are interested in data-driven educational practices that can inform both student and teacher learning will benefit from this session.
