Description

This comprehensive, multi-strand PLI aims to spotlight effective practices in wellbeing, student SEL, child protection, DEIJ, and special education to promote the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of all students and staff within member schools. We recognize that students who are confident, resilient, and emotionally aware tend to excel academically, and these skills enhance their capacity to cultivate healthy relationships and become active, contributing members of society. We want to Make it Happen, and this event will provide delegates with practical approaches to improve the wellbeing of all students and staff who make it happen.

The International Community School of Abidjan (ICSA) will host this event to facilitate convenient and cost-effective access to top-tier professional development, and to foster in-person connections among peers engaged in wellbeing in member schools.

Wellbeing is multifaceted and interconnected, which is why we are hosting an event that brings together the various areas of focus under our Wellbeing for All umbrella program. The main AISA Wellbeing for All Conference wil take place on 22 – 23 February 2025 where delegates will have the opportunity to choose offerings in staff wellbeing, student SEL, child protection (Level 2), DEIJ and special needs.

By attending this symposium, delegates will be able to:

  • Select four 2-hour workshops (16 on offer) that will provide hands-on practical tips and strategies
  • Participate in practices to enhance the wellbeing of delegates
  • Network and connect with peers

ICMEC will also offer an optional 1-day Child Protection Level 1 Training on 21 February 2025 hosted at ICSA. This foundational course enables deep training of school-based Child Protection (CP) team members, and covers 6 essential face-to-face modules:

  1. Rights-Based Child Protection
  2. Online Safety
  3. Policies and Procedures
  4. Establishing a Team Approach
  5. ITFCP Managing Allegation Protocol
  6. First Responder Training

Within these 6 modules, additional topics addressed include definitions and possible indicators of abuse, professional boundaries, creating a school climate of safeguarding, the grooming process, and child-on-child abuse. Case studies are used throughout the course to support schools in strengthening safeguarding procedures. Support and resources for whole staff training are provided through the training-of-trainers approach. The Level 1 Certificate earned at the end of this training is valid for three years.

There are no prerequisites for the Level 1 training course. However, once registered, participants will be asked to complete the 4 self-paced, asynchronous training modules that make up ICMEC’s “Intro to Safeguarding” course. After successfully completing all 4 modules, participants will be issued a certificate of completion. Those certificates must be collected by the host organization before the beginning of the live/synchronous Level 1 workshop to confirm that participants completed the pre-coursework.
