The aim of this event is to highlight seven critical competencies (critical thinking, collaborative thinking, creative thinking, communication, social competence, digital citizenship, and self-regulation) and the assessment practices and processes that make their authentic development possible.
As schools around the world begin to shift their curricular priorities toward developing 21st-century competencies, questions abound regarding how—and even if—we should assess these competencies. Knowledge and content still matter, but they are being repositioned as a means to an end; as the way to develop the critical competencies.
Nothing is developed without assessment. Schools can’t, on the one hand, claim to be developing critical and innovative thinkers for the 21st century but then, on the other hand, assert that we don’t assess those. While some assessment fundamentals are timeless, there are others that will need to be reworked or rethought to align with these 21st-century outcomes.
This workshop will explore how teachers can take advantage of their current assessment knowledge and seamlessly transfer it to a 21st-century learning environment.
