Promoting Career Pathways for Host Nation Teachers

Facilitators: Cecê Ovelar (ISD) & Dr Graham Carlini Watts (AISA)

In this session we will present the findings of the BESE Saka Design Team that led to the development of a suite of initiatives that we hope will support and expand the opportunities for host nation educators career pathways. Graham will also briefly present the findings from his Doctoral research on host nation teacher professional development. Space will be provided to share school practices and initiatives that can further our understanding of the challenges and opportunities in AISA member schools.

Promoting DEIJ in the Classroom

Facilitator: Abeni Johnson & Iman Khan

This session will explore practical classroom strategies that promote diversity, equity, inclusion and justice (DEIJ) in our classrooms. By explicitly and organically teaching and fostering DEIJ, we lay a foundation for learners to understand and appreciate differences, develop empathy, and recognize the value of equitable treatment. This approach helps to cultivate a classroom environment where all students feel seen, heard, and respected, empowering our students to become compassionate, open-minded individuals who contribute positively to a diverse society.

Building Inclusive Teams and Workplaces

Facilitator: Dr Nadine Richards (ISS)

This AISA DEIJ Collaborative Session on Building Inclusive Teams and Workplaces will equip participants with practical strategies and actionable plans to foster inclusive teams, promoting organizational safety and health in their school communities. With a focus on structural changes that foster intercultural humility and cohesion to move towards a truly inclusive school community, the workshop will delve into the importance of teamwork as a competitive advantage, suggest common practices that foster collaboration and effectiveness.
