Description

This pre-conference symposium will provide time for SSS Directors and Coordinators to discuss governance and leadership structures and to agree o‌n major components for a research-based SSS program aligned with good practices. Participants will create a working definition of the core components using the practice profile method and create a checklist of core practices for fidelity measuring each core component. Participants will curate a resource bank for each core component of practice.

    Dr. Stacy Shipman is the Student Support Director at the American International School of Lagos where she helps lead the schools MTSS Implementation Team, along with leading the Tier 3 services for the school. Stacy has been a Marriage and Family Therapist, a research program manager for a national Special Education grant in the United States, a university professor at all levels of higher education in a wide variety of subject areas, and a National Education Association Guest Speaker in Washington D.C. Stacy has worked for 20+ years in the United States and Africa. Stacy is driven to help Student Support personnel be the top in the field to be equipped to serve learning needs for all students.

    Heidi Laws is the Head of Student Support Services at The International School of Kenya for the past 4 1/2 years. She has been in working in special education for 30-plus years in Africa, Asia, Central America, the US, as well as Europe. Heidi is passionate about making a school community more inclusive and celebrating all learners.
