International schools aim to foster learning environments that accommodate diverse student needs, promote equity, and enhance the educational experience for all learners in a global context. This event aims to equip operations managers in international K-12 schools with the knowledge, strategies, and best practices for planning and designing school facilities that foster collaboration and inclusivity.

This dynamic workshop offers operations and facilities directors in schools a comprehensive exploration of cutting-edge concepts in educational space design and management. Participants will delve into crucial topics such as Universal Design Principles, facility master planning, flexible learning environments, and tech-enabled collaborative spaces.

The workshop will also cover outdoor learning environments and their maintenance. Through presentations, case studies, and interactive sessions, attendees will gain valuable insights into aligning facility planning with educational objectives, implementing best practices, and integrating innovative technologies. The conference provides a unique opportunity to learn from peers, explore adaptive strategies, and understand the maintenance requirements for diverse learning spaces.

Participants will leave equipped with practical knowledge to enhance their schools’ physical environments, fostering improved student-teacher interactions and supporting modern educational approaches.

Throughout the conference, participants will have opportunities to:

    Roz has 20 years of leadership and teaching experience in international schools. She is active as a professional development facilitator on a range of topics, including adaptive leadership, effective collaboration, and holistic education. Roz is currently the Director of Teaching and Learning at the American International School of Johannesburg.

    Briget is a partner at GLH, a 75-year-old architectural design firm based in Johannesburg. Since 2011, Briget has worked with AISJ to implement their Master Plan. Her firm has won two awards based on two of the buildings designed and constructed at AISJ.

    K12 Inclusion Services Coordinator

    Laura Cox (she/her) is an international educator and leader originally from the US with a Master’s in both Special Education and Leadership. She is currently the K12 Inclusion Services Coordinator at the American International School of Johannesburg.

    Board of Directors

    Carolynn has spent 14- years on the American International School of Johannesburg (AISJ) Board of Directors including 10 years as Chair of the Facilities Committee, 1 year as Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee, and 4 years as Board Chair. Two years on the International Schools Group (ISG) Saudi Arabia Board of Directors, serving on the Finance and Facilities Committee. While Chair of the AISJ Facilities Committee oversaw the establishment of Facilities Master Plans for both campuses along with the implementation of the Master Plans spanning 5-8 years.

    IT Manager

    Andre has over 16 years of vast experience in the Information and Technology industry. Andre was hired at AISJ as a technology engineer, where he quickly moved to systems administrator and then IT coordinator. He now holds the position of IT manager. He continues to drive technology at AISJ to ensure the School is seen as a leader in the South African and International School system.

  • Tebatso Mogale
    American International School of Johannesburg
    Operations Director

    Tebatso is in her seventh-year as the operations director at AISJ,  she is responsible for maintaining all facilities including the execution of the Master Plan, facilities planning, design and construction.
