  • September - 2021
  • This Deep Dive session will run over a period of 5 weeks

Research tells us that students learn more when they are motivated and curious. How then can we promote learning that will promote these attributes in our students?
This deep dive will look explore the role of learner agency, inquiry and conceptual learning, how this is connected to curiosity, and how we can promote these ideas in our schools. It will examine a process for developing conceptual units that promote agency and inquiry and give participants a chance to examine conceptual units.

Included in this is the role of decision making in schools and how we can include more students input into this and how we can give students more choice in the what, when and how of their learning as a way to promote motivation.

As a result of attending this deep dive, participants will:

  • Understand what agency is and how we can promote agency
  • Understand the connection between inquiry, agency and conceptual learning
  • Explore the role of conceptual units as a way to promote inquiry and agency
  • Reflect on decision-making processes and consider how to involve students in more decision making
  • Understand the importance of authentic learning as a way to motivate students

The AISA online Deep Dives are a balanced mix of Synchronous (interactive online learning involving external expert and peer to peer collaboration) and Asynchronous (distance, self-paced and peer-to-peer learning) learning facilitated over a period of 5 weeks.
