As organisations, we have recognised that focusing on diversity, or increasing representation of people from various backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences is important.  However, as we begin to focus on equity and justice within our schools we will magnify these topics as schools. We need to operate with a deeper level of transparency that allows all stakeholders to be seen and heard.

This Deep Dive will explore the strategic approach to DEI&J leadership and operations in an international school and prepare participants to lead this work with their own faculty in their own school.

As a result of attending this deep dive session, participants will:

  • Create value for the diverse communities we serve
  • Collaborate on how to build inclusive relationships
  • Learning and understanding the importance of meeting 4 key needs of employees, staff, students, and community so that they can thrive
  • Engender empathy and respect and cultivate a speak up, ally culture organisations will need to pair these – provide actionable training that rightfully frames a value of diversity, respect, and inclusion as a necessary and actionable workplace skill
  • Identify some barriers to equitable hiring and tools for effective hiring
  • Take a deeper look at the curriculum that be being used and how an anti-biased approach can be taken.

The AISA online Deep Dives are a balanced mix of Synchronous (interactive online learning involving external expert and peer to peer collaboration) and Asynchronous (distance, self-paced and peer-to-peer learning) learning facilitated over a period of 5 weeks.

    Marla Hunter is the founder and president of Live.Love.Teach!, LLC, a global education consulting firm. She has worked with many global organisations, and presented to numerous leaders, to help create more inclusive organisations. Marla is an expert in providing training in DEI (Diversity Equity & Inclusion) with a focus on unconscious bias, cultural competence, inclusive leadership, women’s advancement, authentic leadership, and allyship; EdTech; Teacher Selfcare; and Math Talks. She is also an avid curriculum developer and instructional designer.

    She has had a successful career of teaching and leadership in both public and private education in Nashville (TN), Memphis (TN), Orlando (FL), and currently San Jose (CA). Marla Hunter has also taught, mentored and been in leadership internationally in the following places: China (Shenzhen), Nigeria (Abuja), and the UAE (Al Ain).

    Downtown College Prep’s DEI Committee, and at the pool coaching private swim lessons (which she’s been doing for 20+ years), working with educational companies developing curriculum for their programs, and living a “Life of Yes”.
