Description

The AISA DEIJ Guide, “Pathways to Transformation” seeks to unlock the power and potential of International Schools grounded in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging. The guide is a product of AISA’s Wellbeing for All programme, which seeks to enhance the effectiveness of member schools in supporting and embodying diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) and mental health for all educators and students, promoting a sense of belonging.

This is one of a series of Zoom calls taking place on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. The sections of the DEIJ Collaborative series are:

  1. September: First Steps
  2. October: Strategic Thinking
  3. November: Teaching & Learning
  4. February: Supporting Students & Staff
  5. March: Critical Issues in DEIJ and Case Studies
  6. April: Tools & Resources and Policy Templates
  7. May: Measuring your DEIJ Progress

Participants will have an opportunity to meet to discuss specific sections of the new AISA DEIJ Guide. Before we meet on Zoom each month, ongoing online conversations will be taking place in the AISA DEIJ Collaborative Affinity Group. Two weeks before the Zoom meeting, participants will be invited to explore the new DEIJ guide section topic in the online forum. They can also listen to a podcast from the contributor(s) of the topic and engage in asynchronous conversations with other DEIJ Collaborative members.

SESSION 2: STRATEGIC THINKING

Session Description and Outcomes

As a result of participating at this institute, participants will gain insights on how to infuse governance and community engagement with DEIJ, integrating DEIJ at a strategic level, touching upon governance, leadership, readiness to implement DEIJ and human resource practices that foster a DEIJ-oriented atmosphere within their school.

Pre-session Activities

Two weeks prior, on Monday, October 02, we will launch the AISA DEIJ Guide topic “Strategic Thinking” in our online community discussion forum.

One week prior, starting on Monday, October 09, facilitator Dr Peter Bateman will run an asynchronous conversation with all DEIJ Collaborative members exploring the “Strategic Thinking” topic. Click here to join the conversation.

    Born in Australia, Dr. Peter Bateman has worked in the education sector in Africa for the past 25 years during which time he has developed a particular interest in differentiated approaches to supporting Professional Learning for international educators.

    Having been an educator and administrator in International schools, Peter also has an interest in developing and facilitating online Communities of Practice that enable collaboration.

    Peter holds a Ph.D. in Education (UK), a Masters Degree in Micro Technology in Education (UK), a Bachelor of Education Degree (Australia), and a Post Graduate Diploma in Online Instruction (USA).

    He was recently selected to participate in the Leadership for the 21st Century program at the Harvard Kennedy School.
