SUMMARY
Design thinking is a framework that provides an innovative approach to creative real-world problem solving. The process of design thinking provides individuals the structure to facilitate collaboration while innovatively solving contemporary issues. If you have heard of design thinking and are interested in learning more about the process, this is the workshop for you.

The five stages in the design thinking process are empathy, define, ideate, prototype, and testing which work well collectively. This session is appropriate for K-12 educators and anyone interested in learning about and participating in design thinking challenges.
The session will provide opportunities for attendees to tackle and solve real-world problems while analyzing and discussing how this process can be effectively implemented in and out of the classroom.

    FACILITATOR
    Nneka Johnson is the Director of Innovation at the International School of Dakar. The 2018 - 2019 school year was her first year at ISD. Prior to ISD, Dr Johnson worked for thirteen years as the lead instructional technology specialist at Woodward Academy, the largest independent school in the continental United States. Also, during that time for six months, she worked for a private school in Sydney, Australia as the Deputy Director for Innovation.

    Nneka holds a BA in Sociology from Queens College in New York City, an MS in Instructional Technology from Georgia State University, and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from Mercer University in Atlanta. Her doctoral dissertation centres on the fact that a specified curriculum can change social media usage in adolescents. She is formally trained in Design Thinking framework at the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford University.
