Board training and leadership support for international schools
Nik Bishop has over 25 years' experience in leading International Schools around the world (nine of which leading a three programme IB school in Africa) and has served on a multitude of boards including AISA, NEASC, FOBISSEA and the IB Heads’ council. Nik has created a Board Essentials video series, which is aimed specifically at the boards and leaders of international schools and which provides over 40 videos covering the breadth of the board’s responsibilities and deep-dives into the more complex and sensitive issues that exist in all schools. Nik also offers synchronous training and support for boards and school leadership, whether online or face-to-face.
Nik's board training is developed around the concept of "just in time" or "on demand" style learning so that busy board members can choose what and which content is most appropriate given the prevailing circumstances. In education, there is also the concept of the "flipped classroom" where students would be expected to watch something before the class, and in a similar way, the Board Essentials video series provides an opportunity for "flipped training" in that there are now opportunities for board members to gain insights and perspectives and then to discuss the implications during a meeting or retreat.
Covid permitting, Nik does offer face to face training (or screen to screen) for boards who wish to capitalise on the energy that synchronous training can bring. As an experienced Head, he can also provide leadership mentoring and support that would be ideal whenever there is an inexperienced head taking on a school or where Chair or leadership support would be beneficial.
The Association of International Schools in Africa is dedicated to serving its members throughout Africa during this challenging time. Please let us know if you require additional or specific information, resources and or support, and we will endeavour to assist you as soon as possible.
