International Accreditation: A Powerful Driver for Advancing DEIJ

International Accreditation: A Powerful Driver for Advancing DEIJ

International school accreditation serves to create a framework for quality assurance, accountability, and continuous improvement within the realm of international education. It benefits students, parents, educators, and educational institutions by promoting a standard of excellence that transcends national borders.

International accreditation agencies can therefore be a powerful driver for advancing DEIJ in international schools by embedding DEIJ principles into accreditation standards and processes.

Child Protection was an area where international accreditation agencies played a significant role in strengthening school policies and programmes by requiring schools to meet new standards that were agreed upon by all accreditation agencies. The International Task Force on Child Protection (ITFCP), established in 2014, brought organisations together to set new standards and raise awareness about abuse within international school communities. A similar consultative process is currently underway, led by the Diversity Collaborative which has formed an Accreditation Committee.

In this section, international accreditation agencies share how their accreditation standards encourage schools to prioritise DEIJ and how they are incentivising schools to make meaningful and sustained efforts toward creating diverse, equitable, inclusive and just learning communities.
