Good governance is at the heart of every successful school. The School Board needs to have effective oversight of strategy and school culture to ensure a vibrant community and a school that has a clear vision for its future. The role of the Board Member is complex and challenging and requires ongoing support and professional learning.
AISA has a range of resources (including our revised Code of Governance) and professional learning options for Board Chairs, Board Members and their Heads of School. We are delighted to be introducing a new programme that supports Heads of Schools in working with their own board and develops a new cadre of Board Trainers who are trained and quality assured to lead board training across the AISA region. In this innovation, we aim to ensure effective board training for every AISA school now and into the future.
Aim: This train-the-trainer model is designed to develop the capacity of Heads of Schools and others to provide effective training for Board Members—both within their own organization and the larger AISA region.
The programme is designed to deepen Executive Leadership’s capacity to develop the use of best practices in strategic leadership. Using a train-the-trainer model and following the AISA’s adopted governance standards, participants will develop the capacity to deliver key governance modules either within their school or in the AISA region.
The structure will include a two-day onsite training in November 2022, followed by four virtual sessions aimed at developing additional modules in semester 1, 2023. The cohort will be organized as an ongoing virtual network for continued learning/sharing. 1:1 coaching can be contracted as well. Participants who successfully complete this programme will learn about the AISA Code of Governance and be ready to lead training in their own schools and others from the start of 2023-24.
